St. Anton is the destination this year for skiing. We booked insanely late, but managed to find nice rooms at the Skihotel Galzig www.skihotelgalzig.at
We chose to travel by train from Munich Airport, which is our arrival and departure airport, to St. Anton. It’s an easy connection through Innsbruck and brings you right into the village of St. Anton. From there it is just a short cab drive to the hotel - or if you don't mind pulling your luggage through town, you can walk to any hotel in the center of St. Anton (for us it would be under 10min walk).
The location is perfect. Close to the Galzigbahn and the slopes that bring you back to the village in the afternoon. If you chose a location too far east in the village you will need to take the slopes on your last run that direct you there, which in turn won't let you pass by the famous Après-Ski bars Krazy Kanguruh http://www.krazykanguruh.com, Heustadl http://www.heustadl.com or Mooserwirt https://www.mooserwirt.at. You should stop and join the fun at least once to get a feeling for Austrian hospitality.
The hotel is also close to the St. Anton WellCom Centre https://www.arlberg-wellcom.at, which hosts an indoor swimming pool, saunas, massages, spa, etc. This is perfect for anyone who isn't keen to be on skis or boards all day.
The village of St. Anton offers great shopping as well. Towards the end of the season, you will find many bargains in the local stores with heavy discounts for your favourite ski fashion brands (I bought a Bogner jacket and pants for half price two years ago and in addition claimed GST back when went back home).
You can make reservations for your ski equipment rental before you travel with Intersport at St. Anton at https://www.intersport-arlberg.com/en/. Then it’s only a matter of picking up your gear and you safe yourself quite some time on the first day.
